Ron & Franz

The Coaches Helping Coaches (CHC) program supports experienced coaches in recruiting and mentoring new coaches into the Ontario sport community. Ron and Franz   are a coaching pair who successfully completed the program in 2016-2017. Read on to find out more about their experience!

Where did you actively begin coaching during the program?

Bantam Level at the Russell Curling Club

What NCCP workshop(s) did you complete?

Curling Club Coach Youth Workshop

What was the most important thing that you learned as part of your NCCP Training(s)?

Make it fun and interesting for the players.

What is your favourite part of coaching?

Seeing the kids enjoying the sport and one another. Working on their skills and seeing them get better as the season passes. Many aspects like encouraging the kids to play in spiels, developing their sport abilities, help with their development into adults, etc…

What are the next steps for you in coaching?

I’ll try the competitive coach. Four of my kids are going into the OYCL U18 Rec league.

Why did you decide to become a coach?

Mostly to stay involved with my kids.

What is your favourite part of coaching?

Seeing kids reach their goals.

How has the program benefited you as a mentor?

It refreshed a lot of my techniques in the sport.

What type of feedback was given to your New Coach?

I told Franz to make sure to keep it fun.
