Ontario Coaches Week kicks off with FREE NCCP clinics across the province. The NCCP is the recognized national standard for coach training and certification in Canada. Each year, more than 50,000 coaches take an NCCP workshop and since it began, more than 1 million coaches have participated in the program, making it one of Canada’s largest adult education programs.
Below is a listing of the locations and registration information for FREE courses taking place during 2010 Ontario Coaches Week. Please check back regularly, as host communities are being updated.
Competition - Introduction Part A & B
Coaches in the Competition stream usually have previous coaching experience or are former athletes in the sport. They tend to work with athletes over the long term to improve performance, often in preparation for provincial, and higher level competitions. The Competition stream has three coaching contexts: Introduction, Development, and High performance. The courses we are offering are the Competition - Introduction Part A & B. These course are for those getting started in coaching that haven't taken any coach education yet. Modules in Part A include Making Ethical Decisions, Planning a practice, Nutrition. Modules in Part B include Designing a Basic Sport Program, Teaching and Learning and Basic Mental Skills. Part A and Part B are not consecutive, either can be taken with no previous coach training.
Fundamental Movement SKills (FMS)
This workshop has been designed for High School physical education students who are working or looking for work with young children in community recreation programs or community recreation program leaders working with young children in a variety of physical activities.
The goal of the NCCP Fundamental Movement Skills Workshop is to expose community coaches and sport leaders to a process that will teach and improve fundamental movement skills for children. The workshop consists of 12 units. Each unit focuses on a specific aspect of teaching movement skills or on a specific movement skill. The units give participants many opportunities to assess and improve their teaching of fundamental movement skills.
