The course was developed in recognition of a significant gap in childhood physical literacy education. While students (ages 16-21) form the bulk of summer camp leaders, community center recreation workers, and after school programs leaders, they generally have no training in teaching fundamental movement skills.
The FMS High school kit addresses this gap by utilizing existing resources (PHE Teachers) and existing programs (PHE Classes) to transfer this knowledge to the critical audience (Students ages 16-18). The program is affordable, sustainable, designed to fit into existing high school course structure, and provides students with a nationally recognized NCCP credit.
Only certified PHE teachers can facilitate this NCCP Course kit. You’re already taking a hand in building the foundation of tomorrow’s athletes. This is the opportunity to take it a step further and build physical literacy with community impact. The course is designed to integrate into existing PHE curriculum outcomes. Each module is 45 minutes long to be taught during regular class hours.
Fundamental Movement Skills are the basic movements or precursor patterns to the more specialized and complex skills used in play, games, recreation and sports. Developing proper FMS at the critical age assures children are better prepared for mature physical activity and sport. This new program was developed by the Coaches Association of Canada.
The course is designed to integrate into existing PHE curriculum outcomes. Each module is 45 minutes long to be taught during regular class hours.
