Shaping the Future of Sport Leadership: Ontario Coaches Summit Series Kicks Off Today

  • March 23, 2024

HAMILTON – March 23, 2024 – Ontario’s coaching community eagerly gathers today in Hamilton as the highly anticipated Ontario Coaches Summit Series, presented by the Coaches Association of Ontario (CAO), kicks off. This sold-out event promises a transformative experience aimed at empowering coaches and sport leaders across the province.

The summit boasts an impressive lineup of speakers, each bringing a wealth of experience and insights to the table:

  • 3x Olympic Champion, CBC Hockey Night in Canada & NHL Analyst Jennifer Botterill
  • TSN SportsCentre, Toronto Raptors Reporter & Award-Winning Personality, Kayla Grey
  • Toronto Maple Leafs, Director of Culture & Inclusion & Former NHL Hockey Player, Mark Fraser
  • 2x Olympian, Founder of Generation Safe & Top 25 Women of Influence in Canada, Allison Forsyth
  • Founder of Unleash the Athlete, Mental Performance Consultant with NFL, NBA & Exos, Author, James Leath

Covering topics such as effective communication with parents and the art of fostering team chemistry and positive sport culture, the summit sets out to redefine conventional conferences by offering an immersive experience tailored to the needs of today’s coaches and leaders.

“Today’s summit is a testament to the growth and commitment to learning by Ontario coaches,” says CAO’s Executive Director, Jeremy Cross. “With over 30 sports and a diverse cross-section of Ontario’s sport community in attendance, OCSS continues to be an invaluable asset to support and shape the future of sport.”

The event also features an exciting collaboration with Canadian Sport Institute Ontario (CSIO), welcoming delegates from CSIO’s High Performance Symposium: Building a Positive High-Performance Culture, also taking place in Hamilton, to the OCSS lunch and afternoon panel discussion. CAO and CSIO believe that aligning the two events will offer a unique opportunity for further conversation around positive culture changes in the sport system.

“Canadian Sport Institute Ontario is pleased to partner with CAO on this event,” says Debbie Low, CSIO’s Chief Executive Officer. “Bringing the sport community together to learn and share information is paramount in moving sport culture forward in a positive and inclusive way in Ontario and Canada.”

Through the continued support of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture & Sport, Ontario coaches can access professional development opportunities like the Ontario Coaches Summit Series at discounted rates. Since 2007, CAO’s leadership events are cornerstones on the provincial sport calendar, having attracted tens of thousands of coaches, committed to shaping the future of coaching and sport in Ontario.

“Athletes often spend as much time with their coaches as they do with their teachers and parents. That is why the exceptional professional development opportunities offered by this conference are so important,” said Neil Lumsden, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. “My thanks go to the Coaches Association of Ontario and Canadian Sport Institute Ontario for their ongoing commitment to excellence in leadership in sport and support for athletes. I wish everyone a successful weekend!”

Coaches unable to attend can still benefit from the summit’s insights and resources as the series continues virtually throughout National Coaches Week coming this September. The virtual event, starting at $0, ensures accessibility for coaches from all corners of Ontario.
